If you remember from a couple of posts ago to the Spring time, I shared the first step of "Organizing your To-Do list"- and today I'm here to expand a tad more to really make it SUPER easy!
We know the tasks, responsibilities and errands will never go- away, if anything they may only continue to grow as our families grow & evolve. The GOOD NEWS is that we don't have to feel overwhelmed by all the moving parts of parenthood & adult responsibilities. Behold my RULE OF 3 to a Peace of Mind... by taking our long list and making it attainable & something to get excited about.
For the record, we know we are capable of doing ALL these things. Sometimes, we just have to know when to put certain tasks on hold, when to say no, and when to ask for help. Asking for help can absolutely feel uncomfortable for many Moms & parents. The fear of judgement, the vulnerability, the sense of self-doubt, the uncertainty of what a new person will do with your very personal items...all of that might creep in- but I'm here to say, WE ALL could use a helping hand from time to time. It's healthy to do, we learn from the process, and it's quite liberating!
As the Jackson 5 sang, it's easy as 1 - 2 - 3!
Here we want to set up automatic processes where ever possible. This could easily be for auto-bill pay, arranging recurring carpools, scheduling a standing monthly Date Night + babysitter, childcare swap with a friend one day each month, pre-scheduling haircuts and beauty/self-care appointments, creating a schedule for meals (see my previous post for a template), adding calendar reminders, etc. The less you have to think about and execute, the less worry or anxiety you'll have.
This is where we scratch things off the list that we don't need to even worry about at this current moment. It's equally important to put off certain projects & tasks that are not relevant to this season of your life, this week, this month or that are not urgent. If something causes more work, time and money - then eliminate it (for now). If the focus is on the areas that need your attention in a few weeks or a few months, then it won't allow you to be present with what demands your attention and needs right now. When you can "say no" to a project, it frees up your mind, lifts a weight off your shoulders and gives back time on your calendar to do more of what's more fulfilling in this moment of time.
And here comes the TA-DA!!
Once you have completed a task on your list, go head and check that off and turn it into a TA-DA moment- OR what I like to do is write these little or big accomplishments down on a slip of paper and put it in my success jar! (I shared mine on Twin Cities Live, click here to watch.)
For the past 4 years I have used a former hot cocoa container, covered it with construction paper and stamped a little artwork on the front and labeled this as “Hita’s Success Jar.” It is absolutely needed to give yourself some recognition, and this is a super fun way to do just that. Whether you made the bed today, planned a big party, interviewed for a new job, asked a scary question, or even booked a spa appointment for yourself - anything and everything can be added to this TA-DA list. You make the rules :)
Then, at the end of the year, I love to empty the bucket of slips, and read through all the accomplishments I achieved throughout the year whether they were small tasks or big projects. It gets emotional for me!! I forget so quickly just how amazing I am, and how much I have truly accomplished. Some days I can't remember what I did 1-2 days prior, let alone remembering something that I did that I was proud of. This is similar to what a year in review would be if working for a corporate office, so why not do something similar for ourselves?
AND This is a fun activity to do for each member of the household, which can help checking-off milestones.
There you go! Your To-Do list is now your TA-DA list!!

Despite the goofy Minnesota temps lately, we know that Summer will be here soon enough & we'll be out in the yard & garage quite a bit. This is the perfect time to clean out what you have stored in the garage. Let's dive in to Part 3 of our Spring Organizing Series!

Organizing and prioritizing our items shouldn't have to feel daunting or seem like an extra project to take on. You can take it at your own pace, spread out the tasks, or bring in the family to join in on the fun! Part 2 of the Spring Series is all about how to Re-org the CLOTHES.
If you're between sizes, keep what you think might feel comfortable on your body for another 2-3 months. Your size may fluctuate, and that's OK. Nothing is worse than not having a pair of pants that don't fit, or look/feel unflattering, which for Mamas takes us down the rabbit hole of "I have nothing to wear" & a whole bunch of unnecessary self-destruction. It's not a bad idea to even have a few pairs of pants in a different sizes just in case you're feeling a little bloated, lost a few LBS or even gained a few pounds. Just be comfortable, Mama! You are gorgeous with all your curves.
If you're pregnant, keep what you LOVE from pre-pregnancy.
There's no need to get rid of things you know you're planning on wearing in a few months. For the items that you don't love anymore, donate or sell. Maybe another Mom Friend could use a wardrobe re-fresh. Ask your gal pals what they might like to have from your stash, then the remaining items can go to the donation center - OR do an exchange with a girlfriend who might have swapped sizes with you. Who doesn't love Free99?
My Overall Thoughts:
If you have a pair of COMFORTABLE pants on hand + 1-2 plain Tees + a cardigan/jacket you love...then you can mix and match these items with the rest of your wardrobe pretty easily. Heck, repeat the same outfit as you wish, there are no rules. If you're in between sizes, don't feel pressured to purge all the clothes that no longer fit. Keep what you love!
