This past weekend marked the unofficial kickoff to Summer (Memorial Day weekend).
Prior 2020, we would be gearing up to head to the beaches, pools, splash pads, planning BBQs, prepping for group gatherings, setting our eyes on festivals and parades, heading to sporting events and concerts, packing for travel plans, and looking ahead at rounding out the kid’s school year with field days, graduations, celebrations & staging our days for all the Summer fun ahead.
BUT, before we launch in to Summer, there may still be a part of our heart that may is yearning for some closure with the school year. A few ideas to consider:
THEN, when you're ready to kickoff Summer...you can make some fun plans to make the next 3 months memorable with these great ideas:
2) Camp in your backyard
There will be limited camp sites open this summer, which is still possible to plan for, but a good ole backyard camp-out is a perfect way to introduce any "new campers" in your household to this fun outdoor activity. Not to mention, the bathroom and cozy bed are just a few feet away if needed.
3) Plan a trip to Taylor's Falls
One of my favorite Summer outings for many many years has been our annual Taylor's Falls canoe and hike outing. Since I was a little girl, my family, uncles, cousins & a few close friends plan for a full day in Taylor's Falls.
We usually go 4th of July weekend, and head to the canoe rentals right at 12pm. The "short stretch" is 7 miles....which generally takes our group about 2-3 hours down the St. Croix river. We pack lunch, water guns, snacks and hats.
At the end point, we depart from the canoe with the rental team there to load our equipment & we hop on the bus to head back to parking lot. Then phase 2 of the day starts around pm.
Once back at the shelter area, we pull out the yard games, play volleyball, go on a short scenic hike & then prep for a grill feast. Sunblock and bug spray are both interchangeably used all day of course & the memories made have stayed with me year after year with more to look forward to for the next adventure.
So my dear friends, while this Summer may have a few more limitations and guidelines than what we are used to....it's still Summer!
Enjoy the outdoors and warm days any way that brings you joy. Soak up the bright sunrise & sink in to the golden sunset ....with all the watermelon, ice cream, sangria and water activities you can do in between. Don't forget sunblock and bug spray :)
