The transition from Winter to Spring is far more than warmer temps & sunny days (granted that's really all Minnesotans have asked for).
In the Persian culture, we spend some time right before the Persian New Year (which is the 1st Day of Spring) doing what's called "khooneh takooni" aka Home Cleaning. We dive in to de-cluttering and really deep clean the whole house. It's a way for Persians to rid their environment & atmosphere of the "old & toxic" and make room for the new & bright endeavors of the year ahead.
Persian or not, there is quite a bit that many of us have accumulated over the past few months between the Fall, Winter gear, holiday decor, gifts, and for some of us who are lucky we've even accumulated a few pounds, too! :) #ILovePie
Today, I'm kicking off the FIRST of my 3-part Spring Organizing Series by sharing some tips on how to get ahead on the never ending list of tasks and TO-DOs.
Sure enough, there is a super efficient way to organize your TO DOs:
1) Write down all your tasks & projects that are on your mind. Whether it's a bigger project or a small task, write it down.
2) Prioritize each tasks by ranking them in order of importance 1-10.
Note: The "urgency" may depend on your family's needs at this current moment. A task might be even an something to focus that has an approaching deadline, something that's been weighing on your shoulders, a party you're hosting, or a task that's hindering you from doing other important tasks.
3) Circle your Top 3 most important tasks for the week.
Make it fun and grab a highlighter, we want to have these 3 stand out and be your focus.
4) Table everything else until these 3 are DONE.
Depending on your top 3 priorities, the timeline to complete them may take a week, or it might be a larger on-going project in the month ahead. Commit to working through these 3 before you add a 4th task/project. The idea is to keep it simple so you don't feel overwhelmed, but you can certainly move on to a new project from your original list AFTER you have completed one of the 3.
Everything else that didn't make the Top 3 can be delegated to other members of the house, which gives your significant other or kids more responsibility and LESS that you have to do. You certainly don't have to do the laundry or vacuum or do the dishes all by yourself...make a simple task chart and assign names to it :)
Hire help (aka TC Mobile Mommy) to come lend a hand. We know you CAN do it all, but at what expense? Your stress? Time? Sanity? Outsourcing household upkeep chores or even the list of errands you have to run all adds up, so don't feel guilty hiring a helper. It's what the services are there for. We can work side by side WITH you, or do your specific tasks FOR you.
Decide altogether what you're going to hold off at this time. Is there a task or project that you want to complete, but don't have the time or mental capacity to do so right now? Hold off on it until next month or when you cross that bridge and need to make it a priority.
YOU got this! There's always a lot to do, and it can feel daunting.... but pace yourself. You can work on one part of your home each week or on designated days. And when you just flat out don't want to deal with "that project" that has been pending for 6 months...give us a call & we'll be there to help.
Give it a try & empty your mind from all your tasks and desired projects.
Focus on your top 3, delegate tasks & start with the "quick" items from your list.
Come on back next week as we head into part TWO of our Spring Series.
Happy TO-DO List Tackling!!
